Balkan tour #2 (June 2012)

Written by Thanasis Vavaroutas. Posted in Expeditions

The BMW Clubs Meeting 2012 in Hungary, was the cause for this wonderful 7-day trip.  Well designed and organized, started on the 12th of June, 2012.  I driven 1250 kilometers from Rion (Greece) to Sibiu (Romania), in one day.  I stayed two days in Sibiu enjoying the Red Bull Romaniacs Enduro in the city.  Sibiu is the heart of Transylvania.  I climbed 1.480 steps to visit the Dracula's Castle in Poenari, I crossed the legendary road of Transfagarasan and afterwards I drove to Budapest (Hungary).

On Friday, the 15th of June, I joined the other members of the BMW Clubs in Velence, approximately 50 kms away of Budapest.  I enjoyed the meeting, and the next day I travelled to Zagreb, Croatia.  I had been before in Zagreb and the city was familiar to me.  On Sunday, the 17th of June I drove south in Croatia to visit Plitvice Lakes.  I was amazed by the nature! I walked in Plitvice Lakes National Park for two hours.  It was awesome!!!  After my visit to the lakes, I drove to Budva in Montenegro where I stayed overnight.

The last day of my trip I drove south through the "difficult" roads of Albania, back to my village Rion, in Greece.

A seven days trip, crossing 8 countries with a total of 3.760 kilometers driven in the secondary roads of Romania, Croatia, Montenegro and Albania, it was a very good escape!
